Why Killarney makes the perfect destination for your wedding in Ireland?
I'll let the wedding photos do the heavy lifting
FAQ ABOUT KILLARNEY WEDDINGS
Can ye get married in St. Mary's Cathedral?
Yes, and it’s honestly stunning. Big dramatic ceilings, soft light, and that proper traditional Church feel.
A few things to know:
- It’s a Catholic ceremony, so you will need to go through church paperwork
- Timings can be tight, especially in peak season; you cannot be late to your own wedding, as it will delay the next wedding and so forth
- It’s right in town, so expect crowds outside after
Pro tip: We usually sneak off fast after the ceremony for photos before you get mobbed by tourists and well-wishers.
What are the best places for Wedding photos in Killarney?
This is where Killarney absolutely shows off - it's got the fricking mountains, lakes and big sexy Muckross House
My go-to spots:
- Killarney National Park for that dreamy forest vibe
- Torc Waterfall, if ye want drama and movement
- Muckross House, if Downton Abbey is your jam
- Murckross Abbey, if you like ancient Yews
- Ladies View for unreal mountain views
- Ross Castle for lakes and soft romantic light
- Gap of Dunloe if ye want full wild Kerry chaos energy
Are jarvies actually a thing or just for tourists?
They are VERY much a thing… and I love them.
The jarvies (horse and carts) are iconic in Killarney and:
- Great for photos
- Add a proper Irish feel
- Also… slightly unpredictable 😅
Just plan extra time because they move at their own pace and will absolutely cause traffic.
What is traffic like in Killarney on a wedding day?
Short answer: chaotic.
Long answer:
- Summer weekends = packed
- Tour buses everywhere
- The town centre gets gridlocked - especially during bank holiday weekends,
- Parking can be a nightmare
If yer ceremony is in town and reception is outside:
- build in buffer time
Trust me, stress levels drop instantly when ye are not sitting in traffic in full glam.
What about tourists… will they ruin our photos?
They won’t ruin them, but they will be there.
Killarney is one of the busiest tourist spots in Ireland, especially:
- June to September
- Midday onwards
My advice:
- Shoot super early or later in the evening to avoid the bus tours
- Pick quieter spots off the beaten track - you might need flat shoes for that, Mrs.
And honestly, sometimes the chaos adds to the vibe. I’ve had tourists cheering couples on like it’s a parade, and it's fun.
What is the weather actually like in Killarney?
Ah, yes… the personality of Kerry. You can have 4 seasons in one day!
Always have:
- A cute umbrella
- A relaxed mindset
- A photographer who knows how to work with it
How much time should we allow for Wedding photos?
Realistically:
- 10 to 15 mins after the ceremony
- 20 to 30 mins during drinks reception
- 10 mins at sunset if possible
That’s it. No disappearing for hours. Ye actually get to enjoy your day.
