Top 5 Tips for Booking a Wedding Venue in Ireland

1. Be Weather-Wise (Tis Ireland, After All)

I could go on and on and on and on about Irish weather, sure it's inbred in us to discuss it, being brutally honest it's as charming and chaotic in equal measure, as I write this we are in the middle of a snow storm so while your heart might be set on a sunlit ceremony overlooking the Cliffs of Moher, it’s always a good idea to have a Plan B that doesn’t include soggy shoes, if your precious. Look for venues with stunning indoor options; think cosy manor houses with roaring fires or elegant conservatories with access to or views of the rain-soaked countryside (which is still beautiful, let’s be honest).

2. Know Your Vibe and Bloody Stick to It

Your venue sets the tone for your entire day, so it’s worth taking a beat to figure out your vibe. Dreaming of an intimate wedding in a grand Manor House, or you'd love a venue with mountain views? Or maybe you’re after a full-on celebration with everyone you’ve ever met dancing in a marquee under fairy lights? Whether it’s a rustic barn, a chic city hotel, or a grand castle, Ireland has venues for every wedding mood. Just make sure it feels like you.

3. Check the Logistics (Because Fairy Tales Need Practicality, am I right?)

I know it’s easy to fall in love with a venue’s stunning Instagram photos, but make sure it works for your needs.

Is it big enough for your guest list?

How does it work in wet weather?

How accessible is it for older relatives or those travelling from abroad?

What are your wedding menu options?

Does it cater for, and crucially, will they let you bring your dog? (Because yes, that’s a dealbreaker for some of us.)

4. Ask About Local Vendors, aka little old me (And trust us, we know our shit)

The best Irish venues often come with a little black book of brilliant vendors who know the area like the back of their hand. Florists who can source wildflowers from the local hedgerows? Makeup artists who can make you look flawless even in a gale-force wind and horizontal rain? Absolutely. Make sure to ask about their recommended suppliers; it’s a shortcut to wedding day bliss, girlies. Less Stress, More Success, as the book title goes. If you're paying a vendor to travel internationally to shoot your wedding, they may not know the venue or the area as well as me, aka know farmers who matter and get access to areas that aren't readily available to the public.

5. Timing Is Everything (Hello, Golden Hour, it's me, your long lost friend)

When you book your venue, consider how the light will fall at different times of day. Those sweeping views of the Atlantic are even better at sunset, and some of Ireland’s historic castles look their most magical in soft morning light. Plus, if you’re planning a summer wedding, bear in mind that daylight lasts until nearly 10 pm, perfect for those dreamy golden-hour photos. Then flip that completely on its head and imagine the venue on a cold, wet day, and does it meet your needs? Is the reception room large enough for 200 guests to mingle, or will you be squashed for space?

Unsolicited Bonus Tip: Trust Your Gut, girl

When you walk into the venue, you’ll feel it. It’s like when you meet your partner—you just know. So trust that feeling, take a deep breath, and imagine yourself walking down the aisle (or through a field, or along a beach—you get the idea). One of my good friends booked a venue, and I had to ask her twice to confirm because it didn't match her style. When it came to it, it wasn't the right venue for her, and she ended up changing. But to avoid losing your deposit, take your time choosing the right wedding venue for you in Cork, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary or Kerry.
