Where are the best photo destinations near Dingle, Slea Head, and nearby castles?

I could be here for eternity but here is a short list of incredible photo spots near Dingle and Slea Head, including a nearby castle to elevate your elopement experience to Conor Pass heights:

  1. Slea Head Drive: A scenic coastal road which veers long a sheer cliff edge, offering breathtaking views of the Blasket Islands, ocean waves, and iconic stone walls. It's perfect for a romantic drive with plenty of photo stops along the way and if you're lucky you might even see dolphins.
  2. Coumeenoole Beach A hidden gem with golden sands and rugged cliffs, this beach is an enchanting setting for elopement portraits.
  3. Dunquin Pier (Dún Chaoin) Known for its winding zig-zag path leading to the sea and the fact that cars get stuck trying to drive down here, Dunquin Pier provides a dramatic backdrop that’s both romantic and uniquely Irish. And I have to say one of my favourite spots to watch the sunset.
  4. Minard Castle Located a short drive from Dingle, this atmospheric castle ruin sits on a secluded beach, pounded for eternity by rolling, thundering waves. It’s a magical spot for photos steeped in history and natural beauty.
  5. The Blasket Islands Viewpoint Overlooking the mysterious, uninhabited Blasket Islands, this viewpoint offers an incredible perspective on Ireland’s rugged coastline. Take a little hike up to the old school house which was featured in Ryans Daughter.
  6. Conor Pass Ireland's highest mountain pass features stunning views of valleys, lakes, and cliffs. Perfect for couples seeking dramatic, windswept imagery - Please don't ask me to drive this though, it makes me so nervous.
  7. Inch Beach This expansive, sandy beach is ideal for playful, barefoot photos or quiet moments against a vast shoreline - it's another spot for an epic sunset. Why not have fun and book a surf lesson too!
  8. Eask Tower Viewpoint Perched above Dingle Bay, this historic stone tower offers sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, creating a unique photo opportunity.
  9. Ceann Sibéal (Sybil Head) This dramatic headland is perfect for cinematic portraits, with its rugged cliffs and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.
  10. Gallarus Oratory A 1,000-year-old stone chapel that embodies Ireland’s ancient charm. Its unique architecture and historical significance make it an extraordinary addition to your day.
  11. Dingle Harbour The colorful fishing boats and quaint waterfront create a cheerful and quintessentially Irish setting for photos.

What makes View Point Waymont and Clogher Strand special for elopements?

  • View Point Waymont: This hidden treasure offers panoramic views that stretch across the rugged coastline and out to the Atlantic Ocean. It’s perfect for couples seeking privacy and a majestic setting for their ceremony or portraits.
  • Clogher Strand: The beach’s dramatic blowholes, cliffs and wild waves embody the untamed beauty of Ireland. With fewer crowds than other spots, it’s a peaceful location for intimate photos or quiet moments together.

Why should I choose Dingle for my elopement?

Dingle offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, heritage (don't even get me started on that) and just all round impressiveness, I mean unless you've been there it's really hard to explain just how scenic and awe inspiring it is. It's dramatic cliffs, crazy hill side roads, golden beaches, and colourful, lively villages make it an ideal backdrop for romantic ceremonies and photos that will last a lifetime.

What time of year is best for a Dingle elopement?

May through September is ideal, offering mild weather and longer days. Spring brings that infamous greenery Ireland is so well known for and wildflowers, while autumn provides golden light and fewer tourists (This is my recommend time of year for elopements). Winter elopements, while colder, offer a peaceful and cozy atmosphere.

Why work with a photographer familiar with Dingle?

A local photographer like me Sarah Kate Photography will know how to navigate the area and how to watch the clouds to see what way the rain is coming (I actually kid you not on this, its something I've had to do often.) Also if the islands look super close to land it's a sign of bad weather, but I have so many old Irish wives tales about this that I will save those for in person.

From timing the perfect light for a sunset elopement along Slea Head to finding the most secluded spots at Clogher Strand away from all the tour buses, they’ll ensure your day is stress-free and perfectly documented.
