Kayla & Luke’s Intimate American Wedding at Ballymagarvey Village: A Photographer’s Diary (now that's a first)

By Sarah Kate Photography, Luxury Wedding Photographer Ireland

When Kayla and Luke reached out from the Wisconsin, U.S. to plan their dream destination wedding in Ireland, they had a clear vision: a romantic day surrounded by nature, full of laughter, champagne, and a few heartfelt traditions. On June 4th, 2025, that dream became reality at the breathtaking Ballymagarvey Village in County Meath. one of Ireland’s most sought-after wedding venues and it's easy to see why!

As a luxury wedding photographer based in Ireland, I get to witness love stories unfold in some of the most magical places on earth, but this one felt extra special. From the morning prep in charming on-site cottages to their champagne tower toast under golden evening light, every moment was a joy to document.

A Morning of Calm, Beauty, and Bella Belle Heels - Bride and Groom Prep

Kayla got ready at their Airbnb in Ballymagarvey’s neighboring village, in a room filled with natural light (a photographer’s dream!). Her gown from Calla Blanche shimmered delicately beside her Bella Belle shoes, ready for the day ahead. Hair by Shauna Lawler and makeup by Laura Devides brought timeless elegance to Kayla’s bridal look.

Meanwhile, Luke suited up at Ballymagarvey itself, wearing a classic SuitShop suit, surrounded by his groomsmen, Carson and Karl. The energy was calm but filled with anticipation.

First Look in the Secret Garden

One of my favorite moments? Their private first look in the Ballymagarvey Secret Garden—a hidden gem for couples wanting a quiet pause before the day unfolds. Kayla and Luke shared a few tender, tearful moments beneath the ivy-covered archways. As a destination wedding photographer in Ireland, I’m always scouting light and texture, and Ballymagarvey never disappoints.

Courtyard Romance & Ceremony Charm

Before guests arrived, we wandered the courtyard area for portraits. This part of Ballymagarvey is effortlessly photogenic, old stone walls, rustic doorways, a soft glow filtering through the trees and oodles of flowers. If you're dreaming of fine art wedding photography in Ireland, this is the kind of setting that delivers every time.

Their ceremony, officiated by Loraine Walker, took place in the stone-walled banquet hall under twinkling chandeliers and soft candlelight. Trevor Matthews played music as Kayla’s brother-in-law carried their 6-month-old niece down the aisle as flower girl (cue everyone melting).

Post-Ceremony Feasting & Champagne Towers

After the ceremony, we moved into cocktail hour while the guests mingled. The couple chose to host a champagne tower toast (because why settle for ordinary?). Ballymagarvey’s team made magic happen, finding the perfect space for the golden bubbles to flow.

Speeches were heartfelt and brief, just as the couple wanted, with a special thank-you from Luke that wrapped up dinner. Later, we stole away for golden hour portraits in the gardens. The skies played nice, the champagne glow lingered, and their joy was infectious.

Capturing Candid Joy, American Heart

What made this day uniquely them? Their unwavering focus on connection: they wanted time with each guest, and to stick together the whole day. No staged fuss, just candid memories. As a documentary-style wedding photographer in Ireland, it’s an honour to be trusted with capturing those real moments—the warm hugs, shared glances, and joyful chaos.
