Macroom CASTLE DEMESNE

An idyllic walk down the castle grounds, amongst the ancient trees laid down by Lady Ardilaun and her forefathers, the path way winds along by the banks of the Sullane River. The grounds were gifted by Lady Ardilaun to the people of Macroom. Traversing the path will bring you under a beautiful Beech Tree, much loved by locals. And on then to a junction, to the left will bring you to the 'back gate' of the Castle grounds, to the right will bring you to a bridge which brings you across into Tom Creedon Park from where you can either go to the weirs and its resident heron or down the Town Park to get a view of the castle from the other side of the river. The later part of the castle grounds was developed into an 18 hole golf course. Macroom Golf Course's location makes for some of the most scenic rounds of golf in the country. The whole walk is perfect for a leisurely stroll and around 1-2km in length.
