by Sarah Kate Photography (your overly enthusiastic location scout with a camera)
So, you’re getting married in or near Killarney and wondering where the heck do we go for wedding photos that’ll melt hearts and earn double taps? Well, you’ve come to the right girleen. I’ve spent enough time in Killarney National Park gallivanting to know exactly where to point a camera, where the light hits best and more importantly, where not to step in deer poo.
These six spots are absolute gold for wedding portraits. Whether you're eloping just the two of you, dragging your bridal party along for the ride, or just popping off for a quiet portrait session after the ceremony, these are the crème de la Kerry boi.
1. Ladies View
If you want a backdrop that looks like it was Photoshopped by the Queen Himself, Ladies View is your girl.
- What’s the vibe? Majestic mountains, glimmering lakes, and dramatic skies that make you want to recite poetry.
- Best for: Sweeping romantic shots, veil tosses, forehead kisses, and your granny weeping quietly in the corner.
- Top tip: It’s a roadside viewpoint, so no need to hike in heels. Just try not to photobomb the tourists taking selfies with their sandwiches.
2. Eagle’s Nest (or Egles Nest, if you're fond of a typo like myself)
This one’s for the couples who like a bit of drama.....and not just in the seating chart.
- What’s the vibe? Rocky heights, wide lake views, and a healthy chance of being photobombed by an actual eagle.
- Best for: "We look like we climbed a mountain but didn’t actually break a sweat" photos.
- Top tip: Access it by boat from Ross Castle for an extra dose of magic (and a handy excuse to cuddle close under a blanket).
3. Muckross Abbey
Oh, this place is pure mood and possibly haunted but you can make up your own mind on that.
- What’s the vibe? Moody and romantic, with mossy cloisters, gothic arches, and a 600-year-old yew tree that’s seen it all.
- Best for: Black-and-white stunners, elopements, or just channeling your inner medieval power couple.
- Top tip: Overcast days are your best friend here—soft light, no squinting, and fewer tourists lurking in the background.
4. Muckross House & Gardens
Welcome to the Downton Abbey section of Killarney.
- What’s the vibe? Grand, polished, and dripping in old-world elegance. There’s symmetry, swans, and possibly a deer if we get lucky.
- Best for: Those classic "walking hand-in-hand looking absolutely iconic" shots.
- Top tip: We’ll nip around the back for lake views and that honey-toned afternoon light. A 10/10 for timeless portraits.
5. Torc Waterfall
Nature’s drama queen.
- What’s the vibe? Lush, woodland fantasy with cascading water and mossy stones that look like they came from a Tolkien novel.
- Best for: Long-exposure shots with flowy dresses, wild hair, and a soundtrack of babbling water.
- Top tip: Bring comfy shoes for the short walk in, and don’t worry if your hair gets a bit damp, it’s giving “windswept wood nymph” energy and it can be extremely busy.
6. Ross Castle
Ah, Ross Castle, she’s a sturdy old gal and photogenic from every angle.
- What’s the vibe? Towering stone, tranquil lake, little boats, and a backdrop that says, “We’re in Ireland bitches.”
- Best for: Sunset silhouettes, quiet couple portraits, and “we just got married in a literal fairytale” vibes.
- Top tip: We’ll head out just before golden hour for glassy reflections and swan cameos. Swans are the unpaid interns of my brand.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
- Weather roulette is real. But cloudy skies are actually great for photography—like a big softbox sent from heaven.
- We’ll plan a route. You don’t have to hit all these spots, three is usually plenty for a relaxed shoot without turning your wedding day into a hike.
- I’ve got you. I’ll handle the timelines, the lighting, and the locations, your only job is to look madly in love (easy peasy lemon squeezy).
If you're planning a wedding in Killarney, you’re already halfway to perfection. With these locations, we’ll create a gallery that’s not just beautiful, t'will be epic, emotional, and completely you.
And honestly, what more could you want, other than a cup of tea and a biscuit at the end of it?
Gra Mór,
Sarah Kate
