Jessica & Darragh’s Beautiful Vienna Woods Hotel Wedding

By Cork Wedding Photographer - Sarah Kate Photography

This was not your average wedding day.

We had nationwide fuel protests causing slow-moving blockades, every weather condition imaginable, freezing temperatures, and even hailstones.

But did that stop the celebrations?

Not a hope.

If you’re searching for a real Irish wedding story filled with love, laughter, chaos, and iconic scenery, Jessica and Darragh’s wedding day had it all.

As a Cork wedding photographer, I can safely say this was one of those days that reminded me exactly why I adore photographing weddings across Cork, from Gougane Barra weddings to elegant celebrations at Vienna Woods Hotel Cork.

This was not your average wedding day. We had nationwide fuel protests causing slow-moving blockades, every weather condition imaginable, freezing temperatures, and even hailstones. But did that stop the celebrations? Not a hope.

A Beautiful Start at Seaview House Hotel, Bantry

The morning began at the stunning Seaview House Hotel in Ballylickey, Bantry, where both Jessica and Darragh got ready, surrounded by their closest people for bride and groom prep. We all had an early start with a 12 pm ceremony, but the crack was 90 despite the 5 am start!

Jessica looked incredible in her Bella Bleu Vintage gown, paired with Jimmy Choo heels from Kildare Village. Elegant, timeless, and effortlessly stylish. Hair was by Lyndsey O’Leary, makeup by Maria Coleman, and florals by Nicola from The Flower Yard.

As a Cork photographer, these quieter wedding morning moments are some of my favourites to capture. The anticipation, the nerves, the laughs, the final deep breath before everything changes.

The wedding Ceremony at St. Finbarr’s Oratory, Gougane Barra

There is a reason couples travel from all over the world for Gougane Barra weddings.

Nestled on a tiny island and surrounded by mountains, forests, and water in Cork, St. Finbarr’s Oratory is one of the most romantic ceremony locations in Ireland. Even with bitter cold winds and dramatic skies, it looked absolutely magical.

Jessica arrived to meet Darragh for the first time that day, and the emotion was instant. Real smiles, happy tears, and that gorgeous energy that happens when two people know they’re exactly where they’re meant to be.

What do I think?

As a Gougane Barra wedding photographer, I can honestly say no two ceremonies here are ever the same.

The weather changes by the minute, the light is always dramatic, and every couple brings their own magic.

Fuel Protests, Road Blockades & Pure Determination

We had a weird fecking week in Ireland.

The fuel protests across Ireland led to slow-moving blockades and major delays on the roads at the start of April 2026. Guests were navigating diversions and a lack of diesel and petrol; suppliers were monitoring traffic, and timing was definitely more “flexible” than usual.

But the mood never dropped for a second.

Arrival at Vienna Woods Hotel, Cork

After the ceremony, we made our way to Vienna Woods Hotel Cork, one of Cork’s most loved wedding venues. Tucked away in Glanmire and surrounded by woodland, Vienna Woods has that perfect mix of relaxed warmth and hominess.

Jessica and Darragh were welcomed by over 180 guests ready to celebrate properly. As a Vienna Woods Hotel wedding photographer, I love this venue because it offers: Beautiful reception rooms, timeless décor, and lovely natural moments throughout the day, and it's so close to Cork City! Even in freezing temperatures, the outdoor areas and tree-lined setting make for stunning portraits. And the staff here always know how to keep the day flowing smoothly, no matter what chaos the Irish weather throws at them.

We had every Type of Weather… Including Hail

Rain? Yes.

Sunshine? Briefly.

Wind? Absolutely.

Hailstones? Naturally.

This wedding day delivered every season in one afternoon, but Jessica and Darragh never once complained. We popped outside when we could, grabbed gorgeous portraits between showers, and embraced the drama of it all.

Some of the best wedding photographs happen on imperfect days because people stop chasing perfection and just live in the moment.

That’s exactly what happened here.

To sum it all up?

Jessica and Darragh’s wedding was proof that a perfect wedding day doesn’t need perfect weather or perfect roads. It just needs the right people, the right attitude, and a willingness to laugh when hailstones start falling on your portrait session.

And honestly? Those are always the best days.
