Gougane Barra Weddings by nearby Local Wedding Photographer – Sarah Kate Photography

There’s something nearly otherworldly about Gougane Barra, it often doesn't make sense until you drive in to this scheduled valley. It feels like was whispered into existence by saints (shout out to St Finbarr for putting it on the map) or druids and the odd misbehaving fairy. That’s Gougane for ya.

Nestled at the mouth of a glacial valley, this wee spot in West Cork is nothing short of spiritual. Even if you’re only religious when your flight's taking off.

As a local wedding photographer who's from nearby Macroom, there’s nothing I love more than real moments. And Gougane delivers in full. The scenery, the serenity, the absolute roar of laughter coming from the back room when Uncle Pat tried to dance to Lizzo.

It’s a dream wedding location in Ireland for any couple looking for a meaningful, intimate wedding without all the fluff.

5 star Google Review

M wrote a fantastic review which I'm glad to share

We hired Sarah Kate Photography for our wedding in July. She showed up at the house on my wedding day and it was as if she was an old friend. She was snapping away without I even noticing. I don't really like having my picture taken but she put me right at ease. My family commented on how great she was and I noticed how lovely she was with my nephews too.

I wanted candid and family pictures and she did exactly that. She sent some previews of pictures and honestly they were better than I could have imagined. I love them already.

She had a meeting with us before the day and she went through what we would like and threw out some ideas of her own which we had not thought of. This really helped on the day as it cut out a lot of our time wasting which meant that we had more time to enjoy with people.

I would recommend her 100% and I am completely happy with her service. Wishing her the best and I hope this helps you decide to go with her.

The Chapel, the Lake, the Magic

Now I’ve photographed weddings in all sorts of places. From sea cliffs to posh country houses but Gougane Barra Church, St. Finbarr's Oratory, sitting proud on its own little island, is not only close to home but a place close to my heart. It’s the kind of place where even the midges seem to be on their best behaviour.

The Reception: Pint and a Prayer at Gougane Barra Hotel

After the vows and a few joyful and slightly teary snaps on the lake shore and into the forest for a few more, it was straight across the road to the Gougane Barra Hotel, an absolute gem run by the Lucey family who’ve hospitality down to an art-form. It’s cosy, it’s full of character, with walls adorned with history of the place, and the food is unreal, it was also a local hotel for the couple and it was like a welcome home of sorts! The Indian contingent could not get over how beautifully green everything was and I think you can tell from the smiles on their faces how much they loved it.

You haven’t lived until you’ve had a slice of their brown bread slathered in local butter with a hot cup of Barry’s. The welcome you get there is pure Cork. Warm, chatty, and with a splash of sarcasm thrown in for good measure.

Two guests share a laugh together beside cabinets of glassware while one holds a yellow floral arrangement.

The Guests Came From Bantry, Kenmare, and Macroom and Beyond

People came from far and wide. BantryKenmareMacroom. Even as far as Mitchelstown, God love them. But that’s the power of this place. Gougane draws people in. It’s like a magnet for the wild-hearted and the deeply sentimental.

Even the most hardened city types go quiet when they arrive. You can see it in their faces. This place does something to people. Maybe it’s the stillness, maybe it’s the scenery, maybe it’s the WiFi being patchy enough to force you into the present moment. Bless.
